"Betsy, thank you so very much for the training!
Even though I already knew how to wax and was experiencing a lot of trouble with my Brazilian bikini waxing appointments.
We currently use soft wax at the salon, but I went right out and purchased a can of hard wax and tried the technique you taught to us on a friend the next day.
Although not yet perfect it was the easiest bikini waxing I ever did and I know with practice, and the use of your techniques, I will become a much better waxer.
Thanks again for this class, and your help. I would recommend this class to anyone who really wants to perform a great Brazilian waxing service.

NEW FEATURE: ASK AN EXPERT
How to Get Top Dollar for Your Services
Each month our trainers field questions regarding body waxing and brow design services. So in an effort to share the information with all of our newsletter recipients we will post your questions and our answers in our new, "Ask an Expert" section of our newsletter.

If we choose your question to post in our newsletter, we will reward your participation with a small token of our appreciation. We value your input and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Here's our first entry to kick us off...
Q: How can I charge $45 - $50 to wax someone's eyebrows when the salon down the street performs the same service for $12? Shari W. South Beach, Florida.
A: You are trying to compare apples and oranges. A 35 - 45 minute brow design consultation, which typically costs $45 - $75, is not a simple maintenance appointment.
A brow design consultation is an opportunity to spend quality time with a new client designing and implementing a brow shape that compliments the client's features, and keeps them coming back to you again and again.
Depending upon the information you gather through your client consultation and design process you may decide to alter the beginning point of the brow, elongate the ending point, create an open-ended or closed-point brow, reshape the slope of the arch, recommend fill-in products and more.
Once you complete the initial brow design, your subsequent maintenance appointments, performed every 3 - 4 weeks, are approximately 15 - 20 minutes in length and can consist of a combination of the following: brow tinting, tweezing, trimming, waxing, threading and the application of finishing products.
Maintenance appointments typically range in price from $15 - $30 depending upon services rendered.
Once you know the basics of brow design you can problem solve any ill-structured brow that walks in your door (my favorite is what I call the Mickey-D's arch), but to perform that service properly AND build client loyalty you need time (and time cost money) to do your job correctly.
Remember that your clients' brows are the one accessory they wear with each outfit, and a well-structured (and groomed) brow is you most effective sales tool you have to building a successful brow business.
So my advice is stop trying to be the low-cost solution to every problem, and take your time to build your reputation for excellence. Once your clients understand your superior knowledge and expertise they will never consider letting anyone else touch their brows again.

The Economy of Waxing
by Shala Dveirin, Grace Albert Aesthetics Director of Education and Training
Times are tough and as the recession continues, many of us are seeing the results in our salons and spas.
Our clients are going longer between services and some are skipping services all together.
But while many clients see facial services as a luxury, waxing is often seen as a necessity. With low product cost per service and the ability to do several services in a day, waxing is a great way to insure you stay recession proof.
For example, let's look at the cost and time of a facial vs. a Brazilian waxing service:
The average cost of a 60-minute facial is $60. A Brazilian service also averages $60, but is usually completed in just half the time. So you can make twice the profit from the waxing services in one hour then I could with the facial.
Now let's look at eyebrow design vs. the facial:
Remember, that same facial comes in at $60 for 60 minutes. Brow waxes average $20 for 15 minutes for a wax, and $50 for 30 minutes for a design. So let's say you did one design and two waxes in an hour for a total of $90.
We just made a $30 profit from waxing over the facial.
But what about the cost of doing these services? We can profit greatly from this as well.
The average cost of product and supplies for a facial is about $15.*
Let's break down the cost of waxing:*
Brazilians (per can of hard wax):
Cost of wax: $18
Number of services per can: 3
Cost of miscellaneous supplies (sticks, etc): $6
Total cost of supplies = $24
Cost of service: $60
$60 x 3= $180
Net profit: $180 - $24 = $156
* Numbers are an average used to show cost, price will vary according to different manufacturers' pricing.
So we spent $24 on our wax and supplies, we did three Brazilians and we made a profit of $156. That breaks down to $52 per service (a whopping 87%).
You take that and add it to the number of services you can do and you are keeping yourself recession-proof. Waxing is a steady, consistent service that will continue to provide a great profit.
Happy waxing.
